# How customers join

> What your customers see when they sign up for a card and add it to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.

When a customer scans your [QR code or opens your card link](https://vexioncards.mintlify.site/knowledge-base/sharing-a-card.md), they land on a **sign-up page** for that card. This page walks through exactly what they see, so you know what to expect when you point someone to it.

> [!NOTE]
>
> The sign-up page is **branded to the card**: it uses the card's colours, logo, and name, so it looks like your program, not a generic form. Your logo is centred automatically, with the empty space around it cut away.

## The customer's steps

> [!NOTE]
>
> Loyalty cards live in a phone wallet, so sign-up happens on a **phone**. If a customer opens the link on a **computer**, the page shows a QR code and the message "Add this card to your phone", they scan it to continue on their phone.

**1. Open the sign-up page**

On their phone, the customer scans the QR code or taps the link. The page opens with your card's branding at the top.

**2. Fill in the form**

They fill in the fields you set up on the card. This can be as little as a **first name and email**, or more (last name, phone, date of birth, a choice list, a photo, or your own custom fields), depending on how you built the [sign-up form](https://vexioncards.mintlify.site/knowledge-base/creating-a-card.md).

**3. Agree to the terms**

They tick a single checkbox that reads **I agree with Terms and GDPR**, where each is a link they can open. If your card links your own [loyalty programme rules](https://vexioncards.mintlify.site/knowledge-base/editing-a-card.md), the same tick reads **I agree to the Terms, GDPR and the loyalty programme rules**, with your rules as the third link. This tick is required.

**4. Add the card to their wallet**

They tap **Add to Apple Wallet** (iPhone) or **Add to Google Wallet** (Android). A confirmation screen shows **"Card successfully added"**, and the card is now in their wallet.

The customer sign-up page

## If the card is not available

A customer can only join a card while it is **Active**. If the card is a **draft**, its link and QR code open a simple branded page saying "This card is not available." If the card has been **paused**, the page says "This card is currently unavailable." Either way the sign-up form is not shown. Use **Activate card** to reopen sign-ups, see [Card statuses](https://vexioncards.mintlify.site/knowledge-base/passes-page.md#card-statuses). Customers who already have the card are not affected, their card keeps working as normal.

## After they join

Once the card is in the customer's wallet, they are in your program. You can **scan their card** at the counter to add stamps or points, apply a discount, or redeem a reward. See [Using the scanner](https://vexioncards.mintlify.site/knowledge-base/using-the-scanner.md).

## Referrals

If you run a **refer-a-friend** card, a customer who arrives through a friend's referral link sees a small **"Referred by"** note at the top of the sign-up page, and the referral is credited once they join.

## Sending a card to one person

You do not have to wait for customers to scan. From a card you can also **invite a customer directly**: enter their name and email or phone, choose **email**, **SMS**, or both, and VEXiON cards sends them a link that opens straight on their card, ready to add to their wallet. This is handy for regulars you already know.
