# OBERON: overview

> Connect VEXiON cards to your OBERON POS so loyalty cards are handled at the till.

Connecting VEXiON cards to the **OBERON** POS means loyalty cards are handled **at the till**. When a customer scans their card, OBERON asks VEXiON who they are, shows their points or discount, and applies it to the bill.

> [!NOTE]
>
> This is the overview. The rest of the OBERON guides cover [connecting and setup](https://vexioncards.mintlify.site/knowledge-base/oberon-setup.md), [card types and settings](https://vexioncards.mintlify.site/knowledge-base/oberon-card-types.md), and [working at the till](https://vexioncards.mintlify.site/knowledge-base/oberon-pos.md).

## What the OBERON integration is

It links your VEXiON loyalty program to OBERON's external loyalty card system. OBERON calls VEXiON whenever a card is scanned, and again when the sale is recorded.

* **Reward cards**: the customer earns points on a purchase and can spend them as money off a later bill.
* **Discount cards**: the customer's spending is tracked and their discount tier is applied automatically. These are the **two** card types OBERON supports, see [card types and settings](https://vexioncards.mintlify.site/knowledge-base/oberon-card-types.md).
* **One address per shop**: every till in a shop is set up with that shop's address, and any number of tills can share it.
* **Per shop reporting**: if you have more than one shop, each sale is recorded against the shop whose address the till used.

> [!NOTE]
>
> OBERON does not tell VEXiON which shop a till is standing in. That is why each shop gets its own address: the address the till was set up with is how VEXiON knows where the sale happened.

## How it works

OBERON talks to VEXiON several times during a single sale.

    participant C as Cashier (OBERON)
    participant V as VEXiON
    C->>V: Sign in with the address, username and password

    C->>V: Customer scans their card
    V-->>C: Name, points, available discount
    C->>V: Sale is recorded
    V-->>C: Updated point balance
```
## What you need before you start
**1. OBERON with the external loyalty system enabled**
Your OBERON installation must have the external loyalty card system switched on. If you cannot find those settings, ask your OBERON supplier.
**2. A VEXiON card**
At least one **Reward** or **Discount** card created in VEXiON.
**3. VEXiON PRO plan**
POS integrations are not included in VEXiON ONE. You need the VEXiON PRO plan.
**4. Admin access to VEXiON**
You need to be an administrator of your VEXiON account to see the integration settings.
## What the cashier sees
When a card is scanned, OBERON shows the customer's name and their available benefit:
* On a **Reward** card, the point balance and the value of those points.
* On a **Discount** card, the current discount percentage.
If OBERON says the card was not found, the card belongs to a different business, or the till is connected with the wrong address. See [connecting and setup](https://vexioncards.mintlify.site/knowledge-base/oberon-setup.md).
## Limits
* OBERON does not support **Stamp** cards. Use Reward or Discount cards.
* Each shop can be connected to **one** POS system only. If a shop is already connected to Dotykačka, Storyous or Papaya, it will not be offered for OBERON until you disconnect the other one.
