Stripe Connect lets you sell digital gift cards online. Customers buy from a link, pay by card or Apple Pay / Google Pay, and the money goes to your own Stripe account. The recipient gets the gift card with the balance already loaded.
This powers online gift-card sales. Selling gift cards in person at the till does not need Stripe Connect.

How it works behind the scenes

VEXiON cards does not hold your money. When a customer pays for a gift card:
  1. The payment is processed by Stripe and lands in your own connected Stripe account.
  2. Two fees are taken automatically at the source, nothing to invoice or pay separately: the VEXiON cards platform fee (2% by default), and Stripe’s own payment-processing fee, charged separately by Stripe per its published pricing.
  3. Stripe pays out the remaining balance to your bank account. VEXiON cards sets your payout schedule to monthly by default, paid out on the 1st of the month: one bank transfer that matches your monthly statement and commission invoice, so bookkeeping stays simple. VEXiON sets this once, when your Stripe account is created. You fully own your Stripe account, so you can change the schedule any time in your own Stripe Dashboard, under Settings → Payouts (daily, weekly, or monthly). If the monthly default could not be set when your account was created, Stripe’s own default schedule applies, so check it under Settings → Payouts. Before you connect, the Stripe Connect tile says the money goes to your bank “within 2 business days”. With the monthly default, payouts are made once a month as described here.
  4. The gift-card balance is created in VEXiON cards and is ready for the recipient to spend.
Stripe holds each payment for a short period before it can be paid out (Stripe sets the length for your account), so sales from the last days of a month roll into the following month’s payout. When you get the full monthly statement, its CSV shows exactly which sales are inside each payout.
Because the money goes to your Stripe account, you own the funds and the account. VEXiON cards is only the connection and the loyalty layer on top.

The fee

Every online gift-card sale has two separate deductions, taken automatically before the money reaches you:
  1. The VEXiON cards platform fee: 2% of the sale by default. VEXiON can set a different rate for an individual business. Your monthly statement shows the rate that was applied.
  2. Stripe’s own payment-processing fee, charged separately by Stripe per its published pricing for your account.
There is no monthly fee and nothing to invoice yourself, both fees come off automatically at the source. Both fees are itemized per sale in the CSV of your monthly statement (see below). The exact Stripe fee depends on Stripe’s pricing for your account.
Online gift-card sales are final: there is no self-service refund, and the buyer explicitly waives the 14-day withdrawal right at checkout. In the rare case of a card dispute or chargeback, the disputed amount is handled through Stripe. VEXiON does not pay the platform fee back in Stripe. After a chargeback, the fee on that sale is left out of your monthly commission invoice, or credited on your next one if that month was already invoiced. VEXiON never refunds a gift card, see Disputes and refunds.

Before you connect

Connecting sets up a Stripe account for your business. Stripe is legally required (EU anti-money-laundering rules) to verify your business and the people behind it before it can pay you out. No setting can skip this. VEXiON cards pre-fills what it already has (your company name, address, and business phone, and for Slovak and Czech companies also the business registration number and tax ID), so you mostly confirm. Stripe Connect is available for businesses registered in the EU and the UK.

Have ready (this is what we cannot pre-fill)

These are the genuinely new items Stripe will ask for. For each person involved (see below), have:
  • Date of birth
  • Home / residential address (city, street and number, postal code)
  • Phone number
  • Your company’s bank account details (IBAN) for payouts
For a typical single-owner company, the representative, owner, and director are the same person, so in practice you fill in one person’s details, not three. With that person’s date of birth, home address, phone, and the company bank details to hand, the whole setup takes only a few minutes.

You confirm (pre-filled by us)

Business / legal name, registered address, business phone, product description (gift cards), and customer-support phone. For Slovak and Czech companies also the business registration number, tax ID, and VAT number if you have one.

You add (not pre-filled)

  • Industry (the type of business you run).
  • Website.
  • Statement descriptor: the short text that appears on the customer’s card statement.

The people Stripe needs

If you are a sole trader / self-employed, there are no separate owners or directors, just you.

Documents (usually not needed)

Documents are not required up front. Stripe only asks for one if it cannot verify a detail automatically. If that happens, it may request a photo or scan of an ID (national ID or passport), a proof of address, a business register extract, or proof of bank-account ownership. Most businesses never upload anything.

Connecting your Stripe account

1

Open Stripe Connect

Go to Settings → Integrations and expand Stripe Connect.
2

Review the fee and start

You will see the 2% fee explained. Tick the box “I agree to the 2% VEXiON cards fee and the Stripe Connect terms of service.”, then click Connect with Stripe.
3

Complete the Stripe onboarding

Stripe opens its own secure page, where you fill in (or confirm) the details above. Your progress is saved, and you return to VEXiON cards afterwards. Stripe may need to verify some details before it enables payments.
4

Wait for Payments active

When your account is ready, the tile shows a green Payments active status. You can now sell gift cards online.

When it is connected

Once connected, the tile shows:
  • Your Stripe account (for example acct_...) with a green Payments active status.
  • The fee note: “The platform fee is a flat 2% of every gift card sold. Payouts and statements are managed in your Stripe Dashboard.”
  • The More menu (three dots) with Open Stripe Dashboard and Disconnect Stripe. Open Stripe Dashboard opens your Stripe account, where you manage payouts and statements. Disconnect Stripe stops online gift-card sales (see below). A purple Open Stripe Dashboard button also sits under the tile.

Selling a gift card online

After Stripe Connect is active, turn on online sales for a gift card, then share its link (for example on your website, Instagram bio, or in a message). Customers buy from that link.

What the customer experiences

1

Pick an amount

The customer opens your gift-card link and chooses a preset amount.
2

Pay

They pay by card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. The payment is secured by Stripe.
3

Delivery

The gift card is delivered (by email or SMS), with the balance already loaded, ready to spend.

Your sale email

For every paid sale you get one email, see Gift Card.

Unfinished purchase reminder

When a buyer starts paying online and does not finish, VEXiON can send the buyer one reminder email:
  • At most one email for that purchase, within 48 hours of the start of the payment. A late reminder is never sent.
  • At most one reminder per email address in 30 days, across all businesses on VEXiON.
  • Only to the buyer, never to the person the card is for.
  • With a one-click unsubscribe link. No discount, and no pressure to hurry.
  • Its button continues the same order. The button works only while the order is still unpaid.
  • Only for purchases started after the gift card terms changed on 11 October 2026.
You do not need to switch anything on. You never see the reminder. The reminder follows clause 8.2 of the gift card terms.

Your monthly documents

VEXiON sends the monthly email on the 1st of the month, at about 07:00 Bratislava time, for the month that just ended. It goes to your billing email, in your billing language.
  • No email is sent for a month with nothing to invoice. That includes a month where refunds or fee credits leave no fee to invoice: the credit is carried into a later month.
  • Company billing details are needed. If your account has no company name in its billing details, VEXiON issues no invoice and no email until it has. If the billing details have no email address, the invoice is issued but the email is not sent, and you find the invoice under Settings → Billing → Invoices.
The email has two forms. When the month’s Stripe payouts could be matched (the payouts that arrived in that month include VEXiON gift-card sales), you get the full monthly statement:
  • A summary for the month: number of sales, gross sales, refunds, Stripe fees, the VEXiON cards fee, net amount paid out to your bank, other payments on your Stripe account that are not VEXiON sales, and a breakdown per location.
  • Attached: the commission invoice PDF.
  • Attached: a detailed CSV with every sale in those payouts: date, gift-card number, Stripe payment reference, location, gross amount, Stripe fee, VEXiON cards fee, net amount, and the number and date of the bank payout the sale belongs to. Your accountant can match every bank transfer to the exact sales inside it.
When the payouts could not be matched (no such payout arrived in that month, Stripe could not be reached, or there is no connected Stripe account), you get a shorter email with the number of sales, the sales total and the fee total, plus the commission invoice PDF. There is no CSV in this form. The statement follows the payouts that arrived in the month. The commission invoice covers the fee on sales made in the month. A sale at the end of a month is paid out in the next month, so the two can differ for that reason. The commission invoice is already marked as paid, because the fee was collected automatically at the source. If the PDF is missing from the email, you find it under Settings → Billing → Invoices.

VAT on the commission invoice

VEXiON issues the commission invoice to your company billing details. The fee is treated as a price that already includes VAT, so the invoice total equals the amount that was deducted. The VAT rate follows the country in your billing details:

VAT on the gift card itself

The gift card terms, clause 4.3, say that a voucher is as a rule a multi-purpose voucher: VAT is applied only when it is used with the merchant, not when it is bought. They also say the proof of purchase is not a tax document, and that the merchant issues one when the voucher is redeemed. The online checkout adds no tax at the time of sale.
Ask your accountant how to book online gift-card sales. The monthly statement is a reconciliation aid for matching bank payouts, not a revenue document, and it says so. Commission invoices also appear in the app, under Settings → Billing → Invoices.
Need more than the monthly statement? Detailed program reports (transactions, redemptions, balances, per location) can be requested any time in the app, on the gift card page under Analytics → Request report, as Excel, CSV, or PDF. Request report is part of VEXiON PRO. Generated reports appear in the Recent reports list and are emailed to you when ready. Online sales are attributed to a location automatically via the purchase link, and till top-ups are attributed to the location chosen in the scanner, so per-location numbers work correctly for multi-location businesses.

Disputes and refunds

VEXiON never refunds a gift card, and it never moves money back. Two things lock the voucher balance:
  • A chargeback: the buyer’s bank opens a dispute and takes the money back.
  • A refund you make yourself in your own Stripe Dashboard.
When the balance is locked:
  • The card can no longer pay at any till or from the wallet.
  • The card’s Activity shows a Gift card locked row, with the Source System.
  • In the sale’s detail panel, the Balance shows Locked, and the Where section gives the Reason: Bank dispute (chargeback) or Refund in Stripe. After a chargeback, the Payment shows Blocked after dispute.
  • The locked money no longer counts in Sold.
  • The money stays wherever Stripe or the bank moved it.
A partial refund locks only the refunded part. The detail panel shows Partly locked with that amount, and the rest of the balance stays spendable. When the refund leaves nothing on the card, the whole balance is locked. The lock is automatic only. There is no button to lock a card by hand. A dispute inquiry, where the bank only asks a question and takes no money, locks nothing. If it becomes a real chargeback, the balance is locked then. A won dispute does not unlock the card.

Disconnecting

To stop selling gift cards online, open the Stripe Connect tile, open the More menu (three dots), and choose Disconnect Stripe. A confirmation explains what happens:
Online gift card sales will stop immediately. Your Stripe account stays yours and any in-flight payouts continue; previously issued vouchers remain valid. You can reconnect any time.
Click Disconnect to confirm.

Reconnecting

After disconnecting, the tile shows Stripe is disconnected with the note “You are not selling gift cards online. Existing vouchers remain valid and can be redeemed in store,” and your previous account ID. Click Reconnect to start selling online again with the same Stripe account.
