A Gift Card holds a prepaid balance that the customer spends at checkout. You sell it for a set amount, optionally with a bonus, and staff deduct from the balance as it is used.

How it works

  • The customer buys a prepaid balance (with an optional bonus on top).
  • Staff deduct from the balance at checkout until it runs out.
  • You can sell gift cards in store, or online through a public purchase link.

Best for

  • Selling stored value as gifts.
  • Adding an online gift-card revenue stream.
Good to know: online sales need a connected Stripe account. The VEXiON platform fee is 2% by default, and Stripe charges its own processing fee on top (see Stripe Connect). Gift cards are issued on purchase, so there is no signup form, and you set an expiration.Online gift-card sales are included in every plan (VEXiON ONE and VEXiON PRO). The Stripe Connect tile is in Settings → Integrations, and that tab is part of VEXiON PRO: on VEXiON ONE it shows an upgrade screen. The tile is shown to accounts where Stripe Connect is enabled. Each gift card also has its own Online gift card sales switch, which is off by default.
To give staff a monthly credit instead, use an Employee Card with the Monthly credit template. Gift cards are issued directly, so they have no public signup form.
Already created this card? You can edit it any time: change the settings, design, or details, and the update reaches existing cardholders.

Sales, top-ups and emails

  • Every sale is in the card’s Activity. Online, at a connected till, with the Scanner, or when a printed card is activated: each paid sale writes one Gift card sold row. See Card Activity.
  • A top-up is not a sale. Money added to an existing card shows as Gift card topped up, on every till and on the Scanner. It sends you no email.
  • One email per sale. For every paid sale you get one email, on every channel, about a minute after the sale. It shows the card image, the amount, and, when known, the buyer, who the card is for, the channel (Online, Till, Scanner, or Physical card), the location, the order number, and the bonus. The View card activity button opens the card. The email goes to your billing email, or to the owner’s email when there is none.
  • No refunds. A chargeback, or a refund you make in your Stripe Dashboard, locks the balance. See Disputes and refunds.

1

Open the card creator

Go to Passes and click Create Card. On Choose Your Card Type, pick Gift Card and click Continue.
2

Settings

On the Gift Card Settings step:
  • Preset Amounts: the amounts customers can choose when buying. For each amount you can set a Bonus (€) (extra credit), or leave it at 0. The Total credit is shown for each. Use Add amount for more.
  • Expiration: how long the card is valid: 6 months, 12 months, 24 months, or Custom.
  • Online gift card sales: turn this on to let customers buy the card online through your connected Stripe account (a platform fee applies, 2% by default, plus Stripe’s own processing fee, neither is shown to the buyer, see Stripe Connect). This requires a connected Stripe account, which you set up in Settings → Integrations. Once connected, the card gets a public purchase link and QR code. Without Stripe connected, the card is in-store only.

Card Information

On the Card Information step, set the text and links on the card:
  • Company Name: your business name.
  • Business Links: your website, Instagram and Facebook. They appear on the back of the card.
  • Review Link: choose Automatic (recommended: the Google review link of the store where each customer signed up), Custom link (one review page you choose, the same for every customer) or Off (no review link on the card). See Review link.
  • Show terms of use: switch it on to display your terms and conditions on the back of the card, then type them into the box that appears.
  • Loyalty programme rules: its own switch, separate from Show terms of use. Turn it on and paste the web address of your own programme rules. Customers see the link when they sign up, next to the VEXiON terms, and it does not replace them. The link is never on the card. If you paste an address without https://, it is added for you. See Editing a card.
