When you scan a gift card, the right panel has two tabs, Top up and Deduct, working on the card’s balance. Left panel: the current balance, shown as a coloured tile on phones and as the top row on desktop. With it: Expires (the card’s expiry date) and Last visit. On a phone that is all you see; desktop and landscape tablets also show Member since and a card preview. The scanner picks a sensible starting tab: an empty card opens on Top up, a card with a balance opens on Deduct.

Top up

Loading a balance uses preset amounts only, which you set up on the gift card. Tap the amount the customer is paying (for example 50.00€), then tap Top up to load it.
There is no free keypad on top-up on purpose: only your preset amounts can be loaded, so a mistap can never load the wrong sum. If a preset includes a bonus (for example “+5.00€”), it is shown on the chip, and the whole value is credited.
Topping up a printed physical gift card for the first time also activates it. See Physical Gift Cards for that full flow. In the card’s Activity, a top up shows as Gift card topped up. It is not a new sale, so it sends you no sale email. The first top up of a printed card is the sale: it shows as Gift card sold, and you get one sale email.

Deduct

To take a payment off the balance, open Deduct, type the amount on the keypad, and confirm. You cannot deduct more than the remaining balance. It shows in the Activity as Gift card redeemed. When a balance is locked after a dispute or a refund, the locked money is taken off the card, so it cannot be spent. See Disputes and refunds.
